Understanding the ECO/GBIS Schemes

The UK government offers schemes to help households improve energy efficiency and reduce bills — but understanding what’s available and whether you qualify can be tricky. This guide breaks down the ECO (Energy Company Obligation) Scheme and GBIS (Great British Insulation Scheme), explaining how they work, who’s eligible, and how to apply. Let’s see if you could benefit!

A government initiative designed to help people improve their home’s energy efficiency. The scheme focuses on a whole-house approach, incorporating both insulation and heating measures to enhance a property’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating.

A government initiative aimed at reducing home heating costs through energy efficiency measures. Unlike the ECO scheme, GBIS focuses on single insulation measures and heating controls to improve energy efficiency in homes that may not qualify for ECO.
