ECO/GBIS FAQs

The ECO (Energy Company Obligation) Scheme and GBIS (Great British Insulation Scheme) are designed to help households save energy and cut costs – but understanding the details can be confusing. Whether you’re wondering if you’re eligible, how the schemes work, or what support is available, this guide answers the most common questions to help you make the most of these government initiatives.

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rates a property’s energy efficiency from A (best) to G (worst) and is valid for 10 years. An EPC is required when:

  • Selling a property.
  • Renting out a property.
  • Constructing a new property.

An EPC provides information on:

  • Current energy use and typical costs.
  • Recommendations for improving energy efficiency.

You might need ventilation installed before having any insulation. Don’t worry – our Home Energy Consultants will let you know if it’s needed when they assess your property.

This is sometimes required to comply with building regulations and to prevent things like mould and condensation. Possible ventilation measures include:

  • Trickle vents.
  • Door undercuts.
  • Mechanical ventilation.

A Home Energy Consultant will assess your property’s ventilation needs during the eligibility process. More details are available in our Ventilation Information Sheet.
