Utilita Optimise FAQs

We currently support the following home batteries, with more in the pipeline:

  • GivEnergy
  • Growatt
  • Alpha
  • Instagen
  • Sunsynk
  • Solis
  • Fox ESS (in development)

Utilita Optimise typically cycles the solar battery storage once a day, and this is within the warranty of most home batteries.

Figuring out the savings from solar and battery investments can be tricky, especially with changing energy markets. Initially, when you install solar panels and a home battery, you’re given an estimate of how long it will take to recover your costs. However, this can vary due to market fluctuations.

To understand how much Utilita Optimise is saving you, we compare your actual energy import and energy export costs using the system, to what they would be without it. This comparison uses your real energy consumption and solar generation data, giving you a clear idea of the financial benefits.

Utilita Optimise uses a combination of energy cost forecasts, solar generation data, household consumption patterns, and other relevant information to determine the best way to utilise your solar battery storage. The goal is to maximise your earnings.

This process is continuous and adaptive, meaning Utilita Optimise makes decisions throughout the day. If the weather or other conditions change unexpectedly, our system adjusts its strategy. Utilita Optimise is always working to stay on top of these decisions, ensuring you get the most benefit from your home battery.

Compared to manual control, Utilita Optimise saves you the time and takes the guesswork out of managing your solar battery system, making automatic decisions that maximise savings — all without you needing to lift a finger.

Utilita Optimise is free for 2 years and comes as standard with any install through Utilita Home. There are no additional add-ons or purchases. At the end of the free 2 years, it’s your decision whether you’d like to continue. If you do, you’ll start a new subscription with a recurring, monthly payment.

Simply head to this link and follow the sign-up process. Once you’ve entered some details about your solar battery system, we’ll finalise your set-up. Alternatively, if you’re a Utilita Home customer, your Solar Advisor will set you up on-site as part of your installation.

For our current list of supported manufacturers, typically you don’t need to inform them. However, we’ll handle this process on your behalf with your permission, where it’s required to access your account. If there are any changes to this arrangement, we’ll inform you.

On the Utilita Optimise dashboard, please click on the tariff recommender tab and then click the “View your recommended tariffs” button. The next screen will provide suggested tariffs and guide you through to switching. You’ll need to switch on the supplier’s website and when the switch is complete you’ll need to return to Utilita Optimise and update the tariffs in the settings or in the tariff recommender tab.

We’re here to help if you have any issues! You can send any questions, flag any problems or submit any feedback through our support desk by emailing HEC@utilita.co.uk.

Savings Guarantee FAQs

Subject to the eligibility criteria below, Utilita Home guarantees that its customers will have a minimum annual saving of £138 per year using Utilita Optimise. If your annual savings fall below this amount, Utilita Home agrees to pay you the difference between the guaranteed savings amount and your actual savings amount for the relevant year. At the end of each year, we’ll contact you to arrange payment.

The £138 figure is based on a 5.32kW battery that fully charges and discharges once per day. Calculations assume usage against a single-rate electricity tariff of 25.73p/kWh. Optimisation savings are derived using a smart import tariff with a night rate of 7.9p/kWh and a day rate of 25.73p/kWh, alongside an export tariff of 15p/kWh.

  • Export earning ((5.32(kWh)x365(days)x0.15(£/kWh))) – import cost (5.32(kWh)x365(days)x0.079(£/kWh)) to give the £138 per year

Actual savings may vary depending on the OFGEM price cap, on individual usage patterns, tariff structures, and system performance. Utilita Home is not responsible for changes driven by OFGEM, energy supplier pricing or your individual usage patterns.

Please note that the above savings figure calculation is illustrative only and doesn’t set out the eligibility requirements for the savings guarantee to apply. Eligibility for the savings guarantee is addressed in the next question.

Yes. To be eligible to receive the savings guarantee, the following criteria apply:

  • You must purchase a solar and Sunsynk 5.32kWh battery system through Utilita Home.
  • You must have Utilita Optimise switched on and connected to the Utilita Home battery system you purchased.
  • You must have an active electricity supply to the property.
  • You must be on a smart tariff listed in Utilita Optimise.
  • You must be a new customer of Utilita Home.

The savings guarantee will not apply if any of the following situations occur:

  • You move to a property without a battery system.
  • You move to a property with a batter system however it has not a Sunsynk 5.32 kWh battery system and it has not been supplied by Utilita Home.
  • You are a business.

Utilita Home reserves the right to change and/or remove the savings guarantee. If Utilita Home changes and/or removes the savings guarantee, this change will only apply to you once the current savings guarantee year ends.

*The additional savings attributed to Utilita Optimise are based on a model scenario involving a 5.32 kWh battery that fully charges and discharges once per day. Calculations assume usage against a single-rate electricity tariff of 25.73p/kWh. Optimisation savings are derived using a smart import tariff with a night rate of 7.9p/kWh and a day rate of 25.73p/kWh, alongside an export tariff of 15p/kWh. Actual savings may vary depending on individual usage patterns, tariff structures, and system performance.

**Your estimated combined savings are based on the recommended number of Longi Solar PV 485w panels included in your package and an electricity export rate of 15p per kWh. For a medium electricity usage home in the UK (using roughly 3500 kWh per year) you can save up to £894 per year by installing a 16-panel system with our 5.32kWh battery storage. You can also earn up to a further £441 per year by exporting excess energy back to the grid at an electricity export rate of 15p per kWh. The calculations follow MCS standard procedure and assume a self-consumption rate of 54% for systems with battery storage and 22% for those without. The current unit rate is based on the energy price set by Ofgem at 25.73p/kWh. Actual savings may vary depending on the specific equipment chosen and your precise annual energy consumption. Savings may also vary dependent on your property location and any obstacles which could cause your roof to be in shade, reducing the solar generation as a result.
