Energy Efficiency Tips

Want to make your home warmer while keeping energy costs down? Your boiler plays a big role in your household’s efficiency. In this guide, we’ll share simple tips to help you get the most out of your heating system – so you can save energy, lower your bills, and stay comfortable all year round.

  • Turn off heating when not needed.
  • Improve insulation to retain heat.
  • Seal gaps around doors and windows.

We recommend keeping it at 21°C for efficiency.

Replacing an old G-rated boiler with an A-rated one can save around £310 per year (Energy Saving Trust, April 2024).

* This estimated figure is from the Energy Saving Trust website and is based on fuel prices as of April 2024. The figure is based on replacing an old G-Rated boiler and installing a new A-rated condensing boiler with thermostatic radiator controls (TRVs), as well as a new programmer and room thermostat. This applies to gas heated semi-detached homes in England, Scotland and Wales, but savings will vary depending on the size and thermal performance of your home.

A boiler’s efficiency determines how much energy is converted into usable heat. Higher efficiency means lower energy waste and cost savings.

Boilers have one of two ratings:

  • ErP rating (post-2015): A-G scale, with A+++ being the most efficient.
  • SEDBUK rating (pre-2015): Percentage-based efficiency scale.

A-rated boilers (90% efficiency or higher) provide the best value.
