Energy-saving improvements installed at no cost

Free home upgrades

Through the ECO scheme, you could get one or more of the following improvements installed free of charge – all designed to cut energy waste, reduce your bills, and keep your home warm.

Cavity Wall Insulation

Fills the gap between your external walls to prevent heat escaping – ideal for homes built after the 1920s.

External Wall Insulation

Adds a layer of insulation to the outside of solid walls, helping to trap warmth and reduce heat loss.

Internal Wall Insulation

Applied to the inside of external walls – a great solution for older homes without cavity walls.

Loft Insulation

Stops heat escaping through your roof – one of the quickest ways to make your home more energy efficient.

Smart Controls

Lets you manage your heating more efficiently, reducing energy use when you’re out or asleep.

Solar Panels

Generates free electricity from sunlight, helping lower your energy bills and carbon footprint.

Heat Pumps

An energy-efficient alternative to traditional heating systems, using outdoor air to warm your home.

Thermostatic 
Radiator Valves

Gives you control over the temperature in each room, so you’re not heating spaces you’re not using.

Boilers

Upgrading to a modern, efficient boiler can save energy and reduce heating costs throughout your home.

Who can get free home upgrades?

How to qualify

You don’t need to be a Utilita customer to benefit from the ECO scheme. If you meet the criteria below, we could install energy-saving improvements in your home at no cost.

You may qualify if:

  • Your household income is under £31,000, or
  • Someone in your home has a health condition affected by the cold, or
  • You receive one or more of the following benefits:
    • Universal Credit (UC)
    • Pension Credit (Guarantee or Savings Credit)
    • Income Support (IS)
    • Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) – income-based
    • Employment & Support Allowance (ESA) – income-related
    • Working Tax Credit (WTC)
    • Child Tax Credit (CTC)
    • Housing Benefit
    • Child Benefit*

* If you receive Child Benefit, eligibility depends on your total household income. Check the table below for income thresholds.

What type of home qualifies?

To be eligible, your home needs to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of:

  • D, E, F or G if you own your home
  • E, F or G if you rent privately or live in social housing

We install your upgrades

Choose a time that suits you, and our engineers will take care of everything – from removing old equipment to fitting your new energy-saving measures. No stress, no mess.

Start saving – instantly

You carry on as normal, but with a warmer, more energy-efficient home. That means lower bills, less energy waste, and a smaller carbon footprint – without spending a penny.

FAQs

Your questions answered.

If you meet all the criteria and your home is confirmed to be eligible after a retrofit assessment, your personalised Home Energy Consultant will give you all the information you need on your new efficiency measures. In the meantime, we have some handy information sheets if you want to get a head start!

 

To see if you’re eligible, complete the short survey on the Utilita Home website by selecting ‘Apply’ and our team will be in touch within five working days to discuss your application. You can also get in touch with us at home@utilita.co.uk or call 01962 679048, and we’ll be happy to help.

Check your rating on the EPC register: Find an energy certificate – GOV.UK

It takes around 8 weeks from applying to the final installation. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process.

You might need ventilation installed before having any insulation. Don’t worry – our Home Energy Consultants will let you know if it’s needed when they assess your property.

This is sometimes required to comply with building regulations and to prevent things like mould and condensation. Possible ventilation measures include:

  • Trickle vents.
  • Door undercuts.
  • Mechanical ventilation.

No, Utilita provides fully funded installations for eligible applicants under the ECO scheme.

The application helps assess your property’s energy needs and confirms eligibility for improvements under the scheme.

Support Schemes

Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)

If you’re not eligible for ECO, with the Government’s Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS), you could be eligible to receive free energy-efficient insulation in your home.
