GBIS Scheme

What is the Great British Insulation Scheme?
Support Schemes
What efficiency measures could be installed?
Depending on your eligibility, you could benefit from upgrades to your home’s insulation, increasing the energy efficiency and saving you money over the winter. Our approved installers can install all types of insulation, but the scheme mostly targets Cavity Wall & Loft Insulation.
Who’s the scheme aimed at?
The scheme is designed to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce energy bills for the most vulnerable and those living on the lowest incomes. The scheme extends support to a wide range of households living in the least energy-efficient homes in the country.
How do I know if I’m eligible?
Under the GBIS Scheme, there will be two groups with different eligibility criteria, the general group and the low-income eligibility group. To be eligible for the scheme, your property needs to be owner occupied or privately rented, be within Council Tax Bands A-D (in England), and have an EPC rating of D or below.

Your questions answered
Get to know the GBIS scheme.
GBIS will target mostly Cavity Wall Insulation & Loft Insulation.
You might need ventilation installed before having any insulation. Don’t worry – our Home Energy Consultants will let you know if it’s needed when they assess your property.
This is sometimes required to comply with building regulations and to prevent things like mould and condensation. Possible ventilation measures include:
- Trickle vents.
- Door undercuts.
- Mechanical ventilation.
A Home Energy Consultant will assess your property’s ventilation needs during the eligibility process. More details are available in our Ventilation Information Sheet.
GBIS aims to install single low-cost insulation measures and not use a multi-measure approach. This is to keep it less costly and make it quicker to install.
Yes, GBIS is available to both private homeowners and tenants in social or private rented housing, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
