GBIS Scheme
What is the Great British Insulation Scheme?
Support Schemes
What efficiency measures could be installed?
Depending on your eligibility, you could benefit from upgrades to your home’s insulation, increasing the energy efficiency and saving you money over the winter. Our approved installers can install all types of insulation, but the scheme mostly targets Cavity Wall & Loft Insulation.
Who’s the scheme aimed at?
The scheme is designed to tackle fuel poverty and help reduce energy bills for the most vulnerable and those living on the lowest incomes. The scheme extends support to a wide range of households living in the least energy-efficient homes in the country.
How do I know if I’m eligible?
Under the GBIS Scheme, there will be two groups with different eligibility criteria, the general group and the low-income eligibility group. To be eligible for the scheme, your property needs to be owner occupied or privately rented, be within Council Tax Bands A-D (in England), and have an EPC rating of D or below.

No, the scheme is open to all, we will assess your application even if you are not a Utilita customer.
GBIS will target mostly Cavity Wall Insulation & Loft Insulation.
When we install any insulation in your home, we need to make sure we’re abiding by building regulations. To prevent issues such as mould and condensation, we need to make sure your home has the right amount of ventilation before we install any energy efficiency measures.
If your home needs additional ventilation, there are a handful of types we can install:
- Trickle vents
- Door undercuts
- Mechanical ventilation
Your Home Energy Consultant will explain which ventilation is needed for your home in more detail once your eligibility has been confirmed, but for more information on the benefits of each type, check out our Ventilation information sheet.
GBIS aims to install single low-cost insulation measures and not use a multi-measure approach. This is to keep it less costly and make it quicker to install.
Yes, you can qualify for GBIS if you live in a private or social rented property providing you meet the tenant criteria above. Please note we will require approval from the landlord.
